Don’t try this acne treatment at home

Chemical Peels: – Light chemical peels of glycolic acid and other chemical agents are used by your dermatologist to loosen blackheads and decrease acne papules.

Comedo Extraction: – Sometimes removing comedones proves beneficial. To extract whiteheads and blackheads, your dermatologist uses a sterile pen-sized device. This procedure should only be performed by a qualified dermatologist or other medical professional. Some people attempt to extract comedones and drain cysts by squeezing or picking, which leads to worsening of the acne, scarring and infection. Tissue injured by squeezing or picking can become infected by staphylococci, streptococci and other bacteria.

Drainage and Surgical Extraction:- Some large cysts do not respond to medication and may require drainage and extraction. Drainage and extraction, which is also called “acne surgery,” reduces the pain associated with these cysts and decreases the likelihood of scarring. You should not perform it at home. The “acne surgery” is performed under sterile conditions.

There have been many theories as to the cause of acne, and it is highly likely that there is more than one. The basic reason for the appearance of acne is that oils, dead skin cells and bacteria block the pores of the skin to form a variety of different types of pimples or spots, such as whiteheads, blackheads and pustules than can be irritating or painful. For those who have had to go through the traumatizing pain of having acne, it would be difficult to imagine that there could be anything worse than having acne, but there actually is.  Acne scars are usually a result of acne infection and can cause permanent damage to the skin. Removing acne scars can be quite difficult and expensive too. There are three main ways you could use to remove acne scars from your face.

The first method is through the use if dermabrasion.  Dermabasion is a cosmetic treatment which is used to remove acne scars which are not so deep or very intense. It is a process which needs too be carried out by a professional and can last about half an hour or more. The main principle on how dermabrasion works is by scratching off the scaring from the affected area, kind of like sandpapering off the scar from the skin. The methods used to carry out this process have considerably improved so that more sophisticated equipment like rotating wheels which have diamond ends are used. Before this process is carried out, one has first of all to be anaesthetized. The cost of getting dermabrasion on average is $1500. If you are dark or have a fair complexion, then this is the best method for you to use to remove acne scars. This method is not the best for someone whose complexion is in between these two shades. You should be able to recover perfectly well after a couple of days after this operation has been performed on you.

Acne – What Causes Acne?

Though acne may not be a serious problem, it can sometimes lead to psychological and mental stress. Many people lose their self esteem because of this problem.

So what causes acne? Acne is caused by hormonal disorder. Excessive secretion of the skin oil glands combine with naturally occurring dead skin cells and block the hair follicles. This oil secretion beneath the blocked pore provides a perfect environment for the skin bacteria Propionibacterium acnes to multiply, and thus the skin inflames producing the visible lesion.

Acne commonly occurs in adolescents and young adults. Almost 85 percent of people between the ages of 11 and 30 have acne outbreaks at some point. Acne tends to go away by the time you reach your thirties, but for some people it may even go up to their forties and fifties.

Centuries of Chinese know-how has given us many ways of healing the body through the use of herbs and plants. Natural remedies have been around for millennium and have been used by our ancestors (not only the Chinese). In ancient times, some people knew that certain plants were excellent aids for the recovery from various maladies, although they didn’t know why. For example, a simple remedy, still known today as “Friar’s Balsam”, received the name because this natural remedy was always carried by the mendicant friars as they visited among the people who looked to them not only as teachers but for medical help.

The healing properties found in the plants are due to vitamins, mineral salts, etc. contained in them. Some have acids, such as citric acids from the citrus fruits and the malic acid in apples and other fruits. Other acids may be found in the herbs. The components of these often supply a need that can restore the body to optimum health.
